Evolution of MATLAB

Abstract: We show how MATLAB has evolved over more than 30 years from a simple matrix calculator to a powerful technical computing environment. We demonstrate several examples of MATLAB applications. We conclude with a discussion of current developments, including parallel computation on multicore, multicomputer, and cloud systems.

Speaker Bio:
Cleve Moler is the original author of MATLAB and one of the founders of the MathWorks. He is currently chairman and Chief Scientist of the company, as well as a member of the National Academy of Engineering and past president of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. He is the recipient of the 2012 IEEE ComputerPioneer Award and the 2014 IEEE John Von Neumann Medal.
